The humblest objects of life, whenever created, offer their own mysteries. They afford an underlying meaning to a brief time, awakening an indication of who we are from that mystery of the past into the present. Yet seeing the simple is often obscured by media saturation and repetition. Finding ways of seeing through the technological fog of our culture is paramount for me. Whether absorbing the ruins of Tiberius’ villa, walking among the ruins of Pompeii, or viewing the oozing, red molten volcanic trails of Hawaii, decay, transition and reemergence are, of course, a metaphor of life process. The old becomes ancient at the same time giving new crust for the future. I prefer an execution that is not exact, worn, interacts with other media, yet maintains the qualities of paint and a feeling of little interwoven revelations.
