Patricia Czepiel Hayes
Fine Artist Working in Oils
Although I’m able to draw and paint realistically, abstraction often invades my work. In my oil paintings I explore abstract compositions in nature, particularly landscapes. I often paint without a plan, without sketches, and without expectation. The results are surprising and somehow familiar at the same time, as if each painting was waiting for me.
I was interested in drawing and painting as soon as I was old enough to hold a pencil. By the time I was an art major at nearby Smith College, I was working in oils. I now live in Hadley, Massachusetts and am fortunate to have a studio in one of the renovated factory buildings in nearby Easthampton, my home town. Years ago I helped put myself through college by working summers in those factories, including one summer in the building that now houses my art studio.
