Louise Timberlake Currin
I am primarily a landscape painter. I grew up on a farm and always had views of open land. In my journey of painting I continue to be drawn to the patterns of light and atmosphere in the landscape. I paint with the medium of watercolor because of its transparency and its ability to convey mood. It is sometimes uncontrollable and it still surprises me. In the studio, I begin with a thumbnail sketch and if I am working outside, I concentrate on the moment. I need to paint often so that I lose the worry of how a painting is going to look when finished. Painting regularly also helps me to retain the sense of the wetness of the paper and the amount of pigment needed. I find that the act of painting is more important than what I paint, because in the end, what counts is keeping the connection between the head and the brush in hand.
