Garage Annex School for Book Arts

We offer workshops in traditional and non-traditional book arts, letterpress printing, printmaking, and the conservation of books–all taught by expert instructors.

Easthampton book artist Daniel Kelm founded the school in 1990. He and Greta Sibley are Co-directors of the program. Daniel offers several workshops a year, plus we have many workshops offered by other excellent artists. The Pioneer Valley is known internationally as a hotbed for the book arts, and One Cottage Street in Easthampton houses several book binderies as well as a letterpress printer. Some of the guest insructors at the Garage Annex School for Book Arts come from the local community and others travel from across the country. The same holds true for the students.

We hope you will enjoy looking through our program on our Web site, and that you’ll join us in our spacious classroom. Workshop topics range from traditional leather book binding to historical structures and non-traditional artist books. Often, book experience is not a prerequisite for enrollment. Good hand skills are always a plus. You’ll see any requirements listed with the workshop descriptions. In addition to workshops, Daniel sometimes takes on interns who work in his studio, The Wide-Awake Garage. And, he offers private instruction to individuals and groups.
