Featured at the ECA Gallery is the two-person exhibition, ‘In a Different Light’ with photographs by Dave Rothstein and recent paintings by Caren Hyde. Opening reception Saturday July 8, 5-8pm continuing through July 27.
Rothstein approaches his photography in a minimalist way, playing with depth of field. Rothstein explains: “By momentarily distorting our perspectives of space and place, miniatures allow us to view the subject matter with which they are paired…in a different light. And they engage our childlike sense of wonder.”
Hyde’s paintings depict twilight and illuminated night scenes. Working in an intuitive method Hyde thinks these are times our imaginations can be ignited and fantasy informs reality, creating new narratives, a sense of the uncanny and a feeling of mystery.
