What I Brought with Me (away from the motherland), shows a collection of paintings by Eva Lin Fahey that hold loss and connection close together. The precursor to a larger body of research-based work to come, this show starts the conversation on how new generations learn and remember the histories of their families. While these paintings center specifically on the ripple effect of China’s One Child Policy and the scattering of families that resulted, Fahey is deeply led by the complex roles our families play in the creation of our identities. She wonders, through her paintings, what she brought with her from her birth family, and what was left behind.
