A Statement by Ron Morin:
Most of my paintings are acrylic on canvas and a few include mixed media. Using a limited palette, the paintings depict everyday objects in impossible situations. I paint “quiet” surrealistic scenes that are usually subtle and hopefully thought provoking. The objects in my paintings are treated realistically, but in situations that could only exist in a dream.
For me, painting is the ultimate exercise for the imagination. When there are no restrictions on subject matter treatment, creativity is virtually unlimited. Ideas can come from anywhere and I especially love it when they come from nowhere; just pop in uninvited! When planning a painting, I decide composition, color, tone, etc, but the subject is already there, usually as a result of asking myself “what if?” Subtle humor almost always plays a part in my work. A successful painting for me is one in which the viewer smiles.
