Moonlit Sea Prints of Easthampton MA presents its May exhibition, “Heroes, Heroines, and Badassery”, featuring the works of Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, Ogata Gekkō, Utagawa Yoshitsuya, Yanagawa Shigenobu and more.
Woodblock printing is an amazingly versatile medium, able to produce softly-colored tranquil images as well as vibrant action-packed scenes. This month’s featured prints illustrate the fantastic tales of Japanese warriors, available for you to read on this site. These pieces offer fascinating artistic interpretations of tales of battle, revenge, and adventure that bring the drama and excitement to life.
This exhibit was curated through our internship by Laney Goodrich, Mt Holyoke College class of 2024.
