This exhibition combines for the first time the paintings of longtime Oxbow Gallery member Gary Niswonger with quilts made by DeeDee, his wife of 61 years. Together they lived in Williamsburg MA, in a home centered on a garden designed and established by DeeDee, and painted by Gary. They shared a love of color and pattern, and we celebrate their combined creations in this retrospective exhibition filled with paintings of DeeDee’s garden and bringing together her quilts and his abstract works. Gary died in February 2024. Gary Niswonger received his BA from Miami University (Ohio) and his MFA from Rhode Island School of Design. He taught for 38 years at Smith College. DeeDee spent over a decade working on behalf of regional schools in western Massachusetts. She has been a lifelong quilter and gardener, and still lives in their house in Williamsburg.
