Solo show by Cati Bestard at ECA Gallery
Exhibition Statement: Starting from the spaces she inhabits, whether home, institution, or surroundings, Catalina Bestard explores links between embodied space and its history, materiality, and representation. Photography becomes a vessel for work that sometimes depicts, sometimes stages, and other times pushes the limits of its own possibilities, incorporating failures, unexpected results, and experimentations. Influenced by feminist economics, and the idea of degrowth, in her most recent works she is interested in the potential of disregarded materials.
Bio: Cati Bestard was born in Mallorca (Spain). She received her MFA from Columbia University in 2018. Her work has been exhibited at Ulterior Gallery, Times Square Space, Jewish Museum, Museu Palau Soterra, Crush Curatorial and Untitled Miami. She has been a resident at the Institute of Investigative Living (Joshua Tree, 2018), Hercules Art Studio Program (New York, 2019-2020), Art Workspace Easthampton (Easthampton, 2021) and Penumbra Foundation (New York, 2022).
