Step into luscious paintings that exude a ripeness in the color of ocean and land in brilliant three-dimensional paintings of layered pigment and resin on glass and lucite. Cuomo delves into the themes of mindfulness and spirituality, sexuality and ecstasy, nature, and the mystique of water. There is a transcendent quality to Cuomo’s work that captures a dream-like moment. She approaches painting in layers of color and resin to create three-dimensional compositions on the smooth and transparent surfaces.
Cuomo works full-time as a studio artist in Florence, MA. She graduated from Smith College in 2006 focusing her BFA on charcoal video animation. She returned to painting after leaving school and started exploring light and color in colorful paint to explore the world underwater. This year, she is taking her layered painting techniques above the surface to explore the ever shifting light on land inspired by her home in Ashfield, MA.
The ECA+ Gallery is located in Easthampton’s old Town Hall at 43 Main Street, Easthampton, MA. The gallery is open Monday – Thursday, 12:00 – 6:00 PM.
