Artist Fafnir Adamites exhibits “Enclosures and Inclusions,” at Easthampton City Arts+ Gallery, April 6-26, 2016. The opening reception coincides with Art Walk Easthampton on Saturday, April 9, from 5-8PM. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
Enclosures and Inclusions encompasses recent sculptural work drawing inspiration from the plumb bob, a tool for finding a vertical reference line, and a dowsing pendulum, used as a bridge between the intuitive and analytic parts of the brain. This exhibit includes tools that are not sound, containers failing to hold, photographs that are obscured and simulated handwriting that is unable to be read. Embedding meaning into materials is an important aspect of the work. The transformative quality of feltmaking and the mimicking possibilities with paper casting are used to deepen the conceptual backing of each piece.
Fafnir Adamites holds an MFA degree from the Fiber and Material Studies Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BA in Photography and Women’s Studies from UMass Amherst. She teaches feltmaking and other fiber processes at Snow Farm: The New England Craft Program. She lives in Turners Falls, MA.
The ECA+ Gallery is located in Easthampton’s old Town Hall at 43 Main Street, Easthampton, MA. The gallery is open Monday – Thursday, 12:00 – 6:00 PM.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Easthampton City Arts+, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
