Kaleidoscope Pottery
Since 1992, I have been making functional pottery with designs that reflect the beauty of the natural world. Using a technique I learned from my friend and mentor, Kathy Hibshman, I collect local leaves and use them to create designs and patterns on stoneware slabs. These are by nature one of a kind as no two leaves are identical, and no leaf can be re-used. I form the slabs into various shapes (platters, bowls, vessels), spray them with slip, then remove the leaves, creating a negative/positive image. Pieces are bisque fired, hand dipped into lead-free glaze, and fired again to over 2300 degrees Fahrenheit.
