Deborra Stewart-Pettengill is showing sculptures, paintings and prints created from 2020-2022. The work is inspired by natural forms and patterns, without a direct reference. Some pieces respond to political, cultural or pandemic related issues. Other pieces work with patterns and shapes to explore meditations on infinity, balance, and harmony. Conveying a sense of fluid motion, shifting direction, equilibrium and stasis, continues to be a focus. Overall, these abstract studies investigate the challenge of stabilizing turbulence in a time of volatility.
BZ Reily presents a retrospective of found object sculptures created over the past ten years. Incorporating materials as diverse as antique baseball gloves, industrial machine parts, old children’s toys, and natural elements, these works possess their own sense of time and history. Unified by texture and color palette and inspired by reflections on a lifetime of making art, together these abstracted figures tell evocative and sometimes mysterious new stories.
