ANGELA ZAMMARELLI IN THE ECA+ GALLERY
Artist Angela Zammarelli will exhibit “If You Need Me I Will Be Over Here” in the Easthampton City Arts+ Gallery from October 5 through October 31, 2012. An artist’s reception will be held on Saturday, October 13th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. as part of Art Walk Easthampton.
Angela Zammarelli will be exhibiting constructions, videos, and small works. Her intricately created constructions made with shredded catalogs, cardboard, plastic braid ropes, wheat and fabric intersect the ideas of playful DIY forts and architectural single-person dwellings. In her created spaces, Zammarelli embodies a character that exists in a world that lies between the real and fantastic where she explores many dichotomies including useful and uselessness.
“I am curious about the intersections of fantasy and reality. Where is it that the interior and exterior worlds meet up, and how that meeting is perceived and fits into the larger narrative of society and the expectations held within,” says Zammarelli.
Her materials derive from free piles, trash/recycling, and hand-me-downs. “I try not to use new items mainly from an ecological point of view, by this I mean “recycle, reduce, reuse”, but also the interconnectedness of humans and the physicality of human stuff as used to construct our realms,” explains Zammarelli.
Angela Zammarelli’s work has been exhibited at the Northampton Center for the Arts, Flying Object, APE Gallery, Brattleboro Museum, Mobius in Boston and beyond. In 2011, she received the Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship in sculpture/installation. She has been awarded residencies at ETC Creature Comfort Residency at Elsewhere Artists Collaborative in Greensboro, NC, Three Walls in Chicago, Il, and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, Omaha, NE. She graduated earned an MFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Angela Zammarelli is an ECA+ artist, holds her studio at 1 Cottage Street, and maintains a blog which includes updates about her thoughts, processes and other artist’s work at little-lungs.blogspot.com.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. The ECA+ gallery is located at 43 Main Street, Easthampton, MA. Gallery Hours are Tuesday- Saturday, 12-6 p.m.
